The Pros And Cons Of Cell Phones In High School

Cell Phones in School High school students know how dreadful going eight or more hours without a cell phone is. Parents, teachers, and students never see eye to eye on this controversial subject: whether schools should ban or permit cell phone usage. In the article, “Cell Phones in School: An Overview” by Beverly Ballora, pros and cons of having phones in high school curriculum are distinguished, some points I comply with and others I highly disagree with, also, I relate to this subject well considering that my school has been through the same conflict. Ballora’s article thoroughly describes why schools should allow cell phone use and why schools may find it best to prohibit cell phone in the end. “School authorities also worry that students could exploit the digital photo and video capacity of cell phones in inappropriate settings, such as locker rooms, to record—or even illegally distribute—unauthorized images of their peers” (Ballaro par. 17). My school prohibited cell phone use for this reason. I definitely agree with this statement for the reason that instances like this are extremely serious. On the other hand, it is a shame that a handful of students ruined the cell phone privileges for an entire school. Also, if the pictures are taken off school campus and sent during allotted times for cell phone use, then I feel like law enforcement should carry out the case in their own hands. If teachers cracked down and strongly enforced the cell phone policy, cell phone use in the classroom may become more
