The Pros And Cons Of Carly Fiorina

In a Presidential race filled with various media channels and an overwhelming number of candidates, the public must be media literate, but more importantly, candidate literate. Therefore, the job of the public to make an informed decision extends beyond simply reading the news—it must analyze and interpret the information. One candidate who recently appeared in the public eye after the second Republican debate is Carly Fiorina. In the beginning, she was a nobody, but between the span of September 17 to September 23, Fiorina rose to fame. As the only woman running for the GOP nomination, she has a standard to uphold. While CNN, USA Today, the blog, Run 2016, The Chicago Defender, and Yahoo focus on her standout performance, Fiorina’s Facebook …show more content…
Representative Lynn Jenkins and Milwaukee County Supervisor Deanna Alexander (Team Carly for America, 2015c) (Team Carly for America, 2015d). Despite this support, Fiorina shares the limelight with one female opponent, Hillary Clinton. In many instances, Fiorina has the upper hand. Unlike Clinton, Fiorina has a clean slate in the political realm; this is attractive to many supporters (Livengood & Nann Burke, 2015). During the Republican debate, Fiorina was quoted saying, “if you want to stump a Democrat, ask them to name an accomplishment of Mrs. Clinton’s” (Team Carly for America, 2015b). Ironically, later in the week, Fiorina praised Clinton calling her, “smart, hardworking, and giving it all she’s got”. More importantly, Fiorina …show more content…
Her endorsements and Facebook biography are quite impressive. She is a Stanford graduate, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, and chairwomen for multiple organizations (Facebook 2015). With this impressive resume, one would think donors are eager to donate to this fresh face in politics. In actuality, Fiorina is not harnessing enough Republican support. Apparently, many GOP donors view Fiorina as a “side bet”. Although some notorious Republican donors appear on Fiorina’s finance report, they only donate small amounts (Schleifer, 2015). This media coverage demonstrates the disconnect between candidate owned media and other media platforms. While Fiorina flaunts her support, certain media platforms claim she lacks it. With Fiorina’s current success, digital and legacy media coverage may begin to focus more on the same aspects the candidate owned media

Donald Trump selected Betsy DeVos to be the Secretary of Education, critics have spoken about her lack of experience with public schools, her activism with school choice and private education has led many to believe she will strip funding of public school for private and religious school. mega charities. To me, it's non-news, like Trump's repeated manipulation of bankruptcy laws, or Halliburton's influence on U.S. foreign and energy policy under the George W. Bush administration. What would qualify as news, in my opinion, is a serious look at the reality behind Hillary Clinton's economic and political policy platform. It wouldn't reveal a Marxist in waiting. It would show that a Clinton administration would do precisely nothing to address the critical issues facing the U.S. It would merely maintain the fig leaf for the unsustainable status quo provided by the Obama administration.…

Contrary to belief, the election is not as one-sided as once perceived, in fact, the race is closer than ever at this moment. Shortly after the democratic national convention, markets gave Donald Trump as little as a 20% chance of becoming the next president.
