According to Lee (45), bullying in high schools is a global issue that affects schools negatively. Schools owe it to their students to provide a protected setting in which students can learn and be academically successful. Bullying consists of malicious conduct such as threatening, taunting, and teasing, by one or several students. In addition, bullying can result in social isolation through premeditated exclusion. People that bully usually aim their attention towards students with some type of disability, lesbians, or gays. Bullies may even target specific ethnic groups. Koebler (4) states that statistically speaking, approximately 70% of students attending high school have experienced being bullied. For fear of reprisal, students do …show more content…
First, verbal bullies can be ruthless. They will break a victim down utilizing vicious words and throwing insults just to hurt someone. They choose their victims based on looks, actions, and behavior. Verbal bullies also like to verbally assault exceptional education students. Because most of the verbal assaults take place without an adult being present, the bullies are hard to identify. Because of this, verbal assaults usually result in one person 's word over another. Additionally, adults often times shrug off what students say, by advising the victim not to pay any attention to what the bully said. There have been so many opportunities that a witness could have stepped in to help a victim of bullying, but chose to stand by and watch. Let us not become indifferent to an occurrence that is of this magnitude. (Ehab, 24). Bullying comes in the form of different types of people and different types of bullying. Bullying can result in a lifetime of pain and even death. The victims of bullying need to be aware that there are people that will assist them. They just need to reach out for help before it is too late. The victim has to have the strength to do what is right and stand up for themselves. Just remember, the bullies, in all actuality are the students that are starving for someone to help
