The Pros And Cons Of Banning Pitbulls

Dogs have been man's best friend for more than 15,000 years but some experts believe that it is time for some breeds, like the pitbull, to be banned.
Banning aggressive dog breeds has been the spotlight of controversy for years.
Pit bulls have been bred to be fighting or ¨guard¨ dogs(New York Times1). Some breeds of dogs have been proven to show a higher tendency for aggression(New York Times1).
Dogs are a vital part of people’s lives and don't want a part of their family to be taken from them

Banning dog breeds has been around since the end of the civil war.
It began with the bloodhound(Kendrick 1). People saw them as dangerous and bloodthirsty savages(Kendrick 1). The people then learned that they were just like any other breed(Kendrick 1).

This made it so that family pets were not even allowed out into a fenced yard without a leash (The Washington Times).
This put a strain on the family life of pet owners, but it could possibly lower the risk of fatal dog bites.

Most aggressive dogs have been bred to be hostile and it is in their DNA.
Some dogs have always been more prone to aggression(New York Times 2).
¨The dogs were being raised as a part of a scheme to produce fighting and ¨guard¨ dogs for Mexican methamphetamine labs¨(New York Times 1).
Some breeders will find what makes a dog so angry and breed to that so that the dog will become more dangerous.
This is why some breeds seem much more aggressive and dangerous than other breeds might be.
While some breeders try and make it so that the breed becomes tougher , they can also work against it.
¨Then Doberman breeders in America have cleaned up their act through selective breeding against aggression¨(New York Times 2).
If dog breeders are able to make it so that breeds that are banned through BSL become less violent, we may be able to have all dog breeds run
