When looking into manufacturing self driving cars, the cost of such a project often made companies back out of the idea. The issue with implementing a program which requires parts that are extremely expensive is obvious; nobody can afford it. However, the cost has dropped from a whopping 75,000 to an affordable 500 dollars in the past four years (Neiger). Dropping the cost has not only made mass reproduction an attainable goal, but it has also made companies such as Ford to begin production on a self driving car. With the cost reductions it is seen that the price of producing an autonomous car has to be low or no company will step foot into the project.
