Introduction
There are new and different trends that take place within time. The new trend of the 21st century is to attend a post-secondary education. High school students are motivated and inspired each and everyday to attend college. Everyone wants to go to college because they are all aware of the award that comes in the end. From 2003 to 2013 the enrollment for many public and private institutions have doubled over the 10-year span (U.S News and World Report, 2015). Many post-secondary education institutions have seen their enrollment increase over 90% (U.S and World Report, 2015). Every college student wants to work on campus, since it is a short commute to work, flexible hours, and the student receives a decent paycheck. Work-study, like any other type of financial aid, is reserved for students with financial need; it is part of a student’s financial-aid package (Lipka, 2007). Work-study has many advantages over regular part-time employment: Income from a regular job can diminish a student’s financial aid eligibility, but work-study does not factor any of the student’s earnings into their eligibility for future financial aid (Lipka, 2007). However, that is not the case, because since the current recession the middle class are the ones that have been hit the hardest (Hutchison, 2011). They receive no financial aid since it seems like they can afford college according to the government. The financial aid formulas used to decide who gets grants and who does not does not include other financial obligations that families have (Hutchison, 2011). The lack of government- sponsored financial Aids is an all too common occurrence in our country (Hutchison, 2011).
