Super Clinician Analysis

implemented into the psychological field it would need the ability to learn, and this is where the potential danger comes into place. If AI has the ability to learn, they can develop into a Strong AI, or AI that has surpassed our human intelligence, and could be a grave danger to society. He goes on to claim that Artificial Intelligence could in a way represent a “Super Clinician.” This super clinical could be better than a human practitioner as it could be built with advanced technology that can perceive the human body unlike a human. In his work, Artificial Intelligence in Psychological Practice: Current and Future Applications and Implications, Luxton states “The super clinician could be built with advanced sensory technologies such as infrared …show more content…
Though this, Luxton expresses the possibility and potential effectiveness of technology, and how these technologies can even surpass our ability to diagnose and treat individuals. I agree with Luxtons statement whole heartedly, and recognize the overwhelming pros, but also the dangerous cons of the situation. AI can be amazing for us, it can reduce doctor/human error in diagnosing and even detect things that we are unable to without tools, but we also pose the issue of the technology surpassing our knowledge. He also makes reference to IBM’s Watson, which is a super-computer who has the ability to learn, but is restricted. He references, “[There is a] commercially available version of Watson that has learned the medical literature, therefore allowing it to serve as a medical knowledge expert and consultant (IBM, 2013)” (334). This computer is classified as an expert, and likely has more than enough ‘qualification’ to assume the position of a clinical …show more content…
He believes that technology is logical, it lacks empathy and human discretion like a normal human medical professional has. This could potentially be dangerous to patients as they may not get the treatment that they need because the computer cannot consider circumstantial and emotional factors like a human can. They don’t have accessible memory, and cannot retain new information. They are very 2-dimensional beings and this is why they simply cannot be utilized for psychological diagnostics or treatment. This leads to ignorance in the machines, and allows for them to only know things that we program them to know. This cannot be in the medical field because so many circumstances must be taken into consideration while working this field. What led the individual to the state they are in, what are the valid options of treatment, and possibly how it was treated in the past. Because of this, and a robots lack of empathy, they can be dangerous in treating individuals. I partially agree with Sharf in this aspect, as I see his concern. Artificial Intelligence is not a human, and it cannot acquire emotions such as grief, or empathy. A robot cannot empathize with a human, like another human can, and they

No Longer Effective Even though organizations take cautious procedures to prevent cheating on exams and standardized testing, participants will still disregard these rules and continue to cheat. Individuals that choose to cheat or exploit exams will have no regard for the rules even if they are enforced. With the availability of wearable technology accessible to the public, cheating has become more frequent and easier. This gives the user an advantage over others with access to prohibited programs, calculations, and information that are not allowed on the test. Prevention of cheating through conventional means is no longer effective, with the rate at which technology is making cheating more accessible.…

Therefore, the feelings cannot be reciprocated with a machine because it lacks the ability to experience positive or negative emotions. Another aspect to acknowledge is that throughout both excerpts both authors address the technology which is involved in the relationship as “it” (Turkel, Fredrickson). If the partner participating in love is referred to as a thing then the humanistic qualities are immediately being stripped away from the relationship. Therefore, machines cannot be human enough to perform love and they offer only one major aspect that the majority of people crave: attention. Humans often misunderstand the purpose and abilities of technology, they consider the programs artificial intelligence as personal…

George Musser elaborates on the consciousness of machines in his article “Could Machines Become Self Aware Without Us Knowing?”: “A basic result in computer science is that self-referential systems are inherently unpredictable: a small change can snowball into a vastly different outcome as the system loops back on itself” (Musser 1). To simply put it, systems with a consciousness are known for being unreliable. Everyone still thinks of technology as just a metal computer that calculates numbers and is used for research, but once people realize that technology, particularly AIs, can appeal to senses of emotion, lie, and empathize, they’ll realize the insecurity of them. There is a rating procedure known as the “ConsScale” which classifies technology with a level of consciousness but it’s not completely accurate, it all depends on what is defined as consciousness and that is still debatable. We have no 100% way to determine and guarantee the consciousness of technology, whether it’s already there or in the near future.…

Whereas online therapy traditionally involves no direct face to face contact which results in the psychologist not being able to detect and analyse non-verbal features. These places the psychologist in a vulnerable position and sets them up to be manipulated by their clients (Rennie, 2001). Although, video therapy might be a solution to this issue there is no literature to my knowledge which has determined its effectiveness at detecting non-verbal features. Yet, its usage might be unrealistic for individuals with financial constraints, as it requires a webcam with a high enough pixel quality to accurately see a client’s facial features. An online psychologist can be manipulated by a client in two main ways, either through “faking good” or “faking bad” (Grieve & de Groot, 2011).…

If the programs do not obey their will, then they are to be derezzed, terminated, or in human terms, killed. The users then can be compared to gods or personal deities, giving the programs life and being nearly nonexistent after creating them. The programs do mention their users yet find it hard to believe that any would venture into their computer world. It is not possible for users to enter their lives, just as it is not possible for higher beings to enter our own. This is a conversation to more likely happen between people and not computers.…

In cyberspace, this is not the case. Furthermore, even within the protest community, there does not exist the communal spirit that would encourage genuine volunteers to join due to the lack of physical presence. This is exacerbated, as DDoS is by its very nature exclusionary. It restricts access from the protest of those unversed in technology but who agree with the ideals of the protest. Moreover, DDoS artificially renders additional protestors redundant through the use of bots, which leaves the DDoS “protest” to the whims of a few or even a single person.…

In this essay, I will argue that a computer’s lack of free will is not evidence of their inability to be intelligent since free will is not a quality that humans possess. This is because thoughts occur due to brain states, which are physical and are necessitated by causal…

This would mean that the machine would not have it by itself it is just programmed to have these lack of barriers. Similar to Searle’s experiment, the guy in the room does not understand the language he is just manipulating symbols and it seems like he can speak the language. It can be further said with this that the program is a barrier itself, because the machine (or A.I) cannot do anything beyond the program, so therefore it does not have free will according to Hobbes because it is constrained. To apply this to the examples I used in my argument section would be that the Go machine does not really understand the game it just can calculate options and then acts on them…

Ethical Issues Psychologists are faced with many problems ethically when it comes to using restrictive procedures. Restrictive procedures are misunderstood with not many guidelines or policies to help psychologist know when the procedures are appropriate and ethical. Research by Spreat and Lipinski (1986) searched for answers on restrictive procedures in state policies, guidelines, and federal laws on the use of restrictive procedures (Spreat, 1986). The researchers found very vague and mixed answers in current policies of states and psychology practices. This showed that there needs to be more research on these procedures if psychologist are using them or psychologist should stop using them at all.…

Unlike people, artificial intelligence can’t be enhanced with experiences. A machine is only capable of doing what is programmed in its system it doesn’t know what to improve unlike a human they can improve what was lacking in their abilities. Machines are unable to vary their responses to environment. In terms of artificial intelligence, there is nothing like compare in using the whole heart passionately. There is no such thing as care or concerns present in a machine intelligence vocabulary.…
