The Pros And Cons Of Animal Science

Decent Essays
The common perspective regarding animal science is often poisoned by false notions. Further, while ‘poisoned’ may be a misnomer, the reality of this phenomenon is one in which prospective animal scientists have rose-tinted visions of grandeur paired with little acknowledgement of the training and tasks associated with these ventures. Additionally, due to this apparent consensus, it is easy to conceptualize an image ripped straight from a Fisher Price playset when assessing the field of animal science- ripe with its clean-cut, healthy plastic animals easily managed by children ages two and up.

Animal testing has become one of a number of controversial issues because of the effects that it has on animals. Supporters of animal testing justify these effects because they believe that animal testing is the only way to find new cures for diseases. Furthermore, the reason why animal testing should not continue is because it leads to animals having psychological problems, dwindling of the number of endangered animals and cures that have been proven on animals do not work on people.…

The authors support their assertion by providing examples of needing animal experimentation for testing drugs and because some animal species are very similar to humans— genetical — so animals should continue to be tested, concluding “public opinion must be made aware that hypotheses in the biomedical field is just as likely to fail as in any other field of research. Only continuing trial- and -error to understand errors will show the best way to reach a goal” (34). The authors statement is necessary because in order to judge animal experimentation you must understand it from both sides— in order for researchers to progress even further they must continue trials and errors during animal experimentations. Their purpose is to make readers aware of the benefits of researching animals by animal experimentation from a researcher’s perspective, rather than just what is on the media. The authors establish a relationship of enlightenment with their audience of animal enthusiasts to show how essential animal experimentation is and that research thrives on “trial and error”…

An essential ingredient to improving animal welfare and human health is to farm slower and smaller. The World Animal Protection and the Farm Animal Initiative have developed a project called the Model Farm Project in effort to promote humane farming internationally. The WAP link, “Farm Animal Welfare,” argues that humane farming is both profitable and sustainable. The WAP asserts that keeping farms moderately sized creates jobs, reduces pollution and environmental damage (and expensive clean up efforts), and raises profits because healthy animals are less costly to maintain. In terms of animal welfare, the key is allowing animals to behave and eat as normally as possible.…
