From the case that was just stated the police were scared that they may lose their jobs due to Chase Sherman dying. In Scotland police they aren’t all armed so therefore don’t need to worry about the consequences of using a weapon. However, in 2016 35% of police had taking long term sick leave in the past 5 years due to psychological reasons. It has not decreased but gotten worse. In 2010-2011 there was around 4500 police officers would take long term sick leave and in 2014-2015 had increased to over 6000 police officers. In Scotland, Police Scotland had 53,000 working days used by police officers that were off due to being stressed in the past two years. Police officers are having to work in extremely stressful and fast moving environments and situations might be disturbing. Examples could be being insulted and being scared for their lives. Another example could be being first to a car accident and having to tell families that their loved ones won’t be coming home again. The government try and help police officers that are needing help. In 2014 the government spend £10 million to help emergency services with staff who was struggling with a mental health
