The Pros And Cons Of American Driving

Recently CNN (a news show) introduced an article to the public about Americans driving and it was really surprising! According to United States Federal Highway administration, miles driven by Americans escalated from 2.9 trillion to 3.1 trillion since April 2014.All the use of driving has also said to improve our economy. There have also been statistics that show how our imports and export in the U.S mostly consist of motor vehicles and automotive and spare parts; making the U.S as well as other countries' economy and production rate increase. The usage of driving in the U.S have said to increase our spending in hotel sales and restaurant sales as well as other goods, on the contrary, it has lead to our economy depending on consumers. "We're back to depending on the U.S consumer to prevent the global economy from falling into recession" says Ed Yardeni (CEO of Yardeni Research) in the CNN article. Moreover, Americans driving addiction has many advantages. Although this addiction has not affected the U.S economy drastically, it has lead to restaurant and bar sales to rise by 8% or more each month when compared …show more content…
The spending on cars, hotels, restaurants and bars have provided more employment and an increase in payment for workers and businesses which is a positive outcome to the amount of driving seen. But although the extreme amount of driving can provide more production and income to businesses this could result in a new equilibrium for the economy with permanent higher prices. In a different out look to the situation, the economy may benefit more if the amount of driving and production of vehicles is limited. Even though consumer confidence is seen in this situation there is no way to predict the future. In other words, it is better to be safe than sorry, so by limiting driving and production of vehicles now it could prevent a drastic possibly of a worse economy in the
