Register to read the introduction… Words or terms such as back taxi, angel flight, crab angle, $100 hamburger, and many more will have different meaning from what that is used every day. For example, the term “hundred dollar hamburger” is slang for private aviation pilots who just want an excuse to fly. There are some religious practices that were not allowed on planes as rules on the plan forbid them. Causing uproar for religious people, the issue would continue as the rules were made to protect everyone on the plane. Some devices were not allowed because they can interfere with the plane’s systems during start up or during flight. Jokes about planes during the flight were mostly taken seriously; from some religious jokes to bomb jokes. Even some words, such as bomb or terrorist became taboo during a visit to the …show more content…
Even with movies that showed unexpected problems during flights such as engine blowing, hi-jacking, bombs, missing people, and yes, even snakes, many people did not worry about air safety. However, with the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, many people are still cautious and hesitant about flying. This event caused many people to fear that they could also be hi-jacked. The airline security changed and was much stricter than what it was before. People were only allowed certain items to be carried on board; the limit on the items on carry-on bags must be within 10x16x24 inches for most airlines, security checks became stricter and took more time. This also led to a war on terrorism which is still going on …show more content…
It can give people asthma or trigger asthma attacks, lung cancer, even birth defects. The pollution generated from “Ground access vehicles emit 56% of VOCs, while aircraft taking off and landing give off only 32.6% (including emissions from APUs), according to the EPA. Ground access vehicles emit 39.3% of NO x , trailing closely behind emissions by aircraft and APUs of 46.3%” (Health Perspectives (EHP)). The air pollution California seems to be the worst. From the chart you can see that L.A. and Sacramento are on top of the list. Of course if you ever visit L.A. and have a view from above, you can see the clouds of air pollution. To help lower the pollution, the airlines have already started using electrical powered equipment. Research on more efficient engines for planes are under research and is hopefully created

“While we have seen a reduction in airborne accidents, surface operations remain problematic…” (Hersmans 21). If airlines did not pressure these ground crews as much, we would see a reduction in the problems during pre-flight check. Often this causes new pilots to be very eager to fly. One of the hidden purposes to a preflight check is to find any reason that a plane shouldn’t take off (Fowler). Sadly, with the eagerness of new pilots and the rush of airlines pressuring them, people often overlook the small details in a pre-flight check.…

Police presence was very uncommon back in 2001, which is totally different from now. Also similar to airports, attitudes in the subway have changed. People are actively looking for suspicious behavior and law enforcement encourages people to report suspicious packages. This includes all other forms of transportation. In 2001 if someone had left there backpack on a bench for a minute, people would not have noticed.…

Like I had mentioned above, the first disadvantage of using cell phones during flight time might interfere with cellular networks on the ground and it could potentially bring down an airplane. Besides, it also can interfere with the instrument. Another disadvantage is if cell phones allowed on plane then people can make calls anytime, it will be noisy, because some people will speak loudly when they are making a phone call. In other hand, people who has 10 hours flight and need to take rest, but suddenly someone started speaking loudly on the phone, it would be an annoying attitude to the passengers. So using a phone on the plane might disturb others, and will increase crew workload (Arora,…

Officials then realized after 9/11 that not having restrictions on materials is not the best decision if they want to prevent a tragedy such as 9/11 to happen again. The most flown airlines today only allow passengers to check luggage that weighs less than or equal to fifty pounds otherwise passengers have to pay an extra fee, according to Mark Frink (Frink 86). The weight restriction limits the number of items that passengers can pack in their suitcase and usually only leaves room for necessary materials. The airport also limits the size of carry-on that is allowed on to the plane. The size requirement for a carry-on bag is, “22x14x9” inches or smaller (Frink 86).…

Turbines also produce a lot of noise, so it cannot be used in urban areas. While some people like how turbines look, many do not. (Maehlum) Turbines may also affect TV reception. (Darvill) There is a risk of land erosion if it is used in desert areas from digging to install turbines.…

It went from being easy-breezy and being really fast to being really difficult and taking hours and hours. Now everyone has to go through suitcase checks and metal detectors. One used to be able to take drinks and food from places they came from onto the plane, but now the TSA throws out things if one tries to bring drink or food onto a plane. They do this because the drink could have poison, or a liquid to make a bomb, and the food could contain a weapon, a bomb, or something else that could kill people. These are just a few of the ways that airport security has changed since 9/11/2001.…

For adults, secondhand smoke causes lung cancer, strokes, and coronary heart disease (Health Effects of Secondhand Smoke). According to the CDC, “breathing secondhand smoke can have immediate adverse effects on your blood and blood vessels, increasing the risk of having a heart attack.” No protection for those smoking from non-smokers within an enclosed environment results in the only means to protect people is to eliminate smoking indoors (Smoke-free Illinois). Second hand smoke increases the risk for stroke and the risk of developing lung cancer by 20-30%. Lung cancer deaths to due secondhand smoke result in more than 7,300 deaths among nonsmokers in the U.S. each year. Nearly 34,000 premature deaths from heart disease occur each year in U.S. nonsmokers from secondhand smoke (Health Effects of Secondhand Smoke).…

Today, there was an article describing how security at Chicago Midway International Airport was in complete disarray which was blamed on manpower shortages. While I can 't validate manpower shortages, I am aware that screening passengers can be time intensive given the number of people who fly. Physical security measures are best administered in layers, and in some instances, it is unnecessary for some precautions to be redundantly applied. For instance, liquid explosives may or may not pose the imminent threat it once did 8 or 9 years ago. For that reason, if intelligence has does not deemed it an existential threat, then screeners should change tactics to spot checks whenever practical.…

They could be members of ISIS or they could be carrying diseases that they may or may not realize they have, then when they come to America it can potentially be very bad for Americans, which has led to the idea of no grey area in immigration. The illegal immigration numbers have become almost out of control because of the lack of institutionalized polices and enforcement along the border in the last two years. In the last year, crimes from undocumented immigrants increased substantially because of these policies that they have sort of disregarded, in recent debates, these are the topics that are brought up because of the effects they are having on this…

Weather can be hard to prepare for and bad weather can create either smaller planes or less seat availability due to weight restrictions on the flight (Laudon & Laudon, 2010, p. 459). In addition to this, gate attendants have the capabilities of inputting passengers to a flight. This allows for false passengers which the computer sees as a real person. Gate attendants do this to minimize having to deal with a ticked off customer but they are actually doing more harm than…
