For example, the term “hundred dollar hamburger” is slang for private aviation pilots who just want an excuse to fly. There are some religious practices that were not allowed on planes as rules on the plan forbid them. Causing uproar for religious people, the issue would continue as the rules were made to protect everyone on the plane. Some devices were not allowed because they can interfere with the plane’s systems during start up or during flight. Jokes about planes during the flight were mostly taken seriously; from some religious jokes to bomb jokes. Even with movies that showed unexpected problems during flights such as engine blowing, hi-jacking, bombs, missing people, and yes, even snakes, many people did not worry about air safety. However, with the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, many people are still cautious and hesitant about flying. This event caused many people to fear that they could also be hi-jacked. The airline security changed and was much stricter than what it was before. People were only allowed certain items to be carried on board; the limit on the items on carry-on bags must be within 10x16x24 inches for most airlines, security checks became stricter and took more time. It can give people asthma or trigger asthma attacks, lung cancer, even birth defects. The pollution generated from “Ground access vehicles emit 56% of VOCs, while aircraft taking off and landing give off only 32.6% (including emissions from APUs), according to the EPA. Ground access vehicles emit 39.3% of NO x , trailing closely behind emissions by aircraft and APUs of 46.3%” (Health Perspectives (EHP)). The air pollution California seems to be the worst. From the chart you can see that L.A. and Sacramento are on top of the list. Of course if you ever visit L.A. and have a view from above, you can see the clouds of air pollution.
