One topic that has been in the hot seat for a long time now is whether or not abortions should be legal. The case that made abortions legal within a certain set standards listed in the Uniform Abortion Act. (Roe) The act was a result of the famous Roe v. Wade case. Many who fight for the right of women to choose to have an abortion; however the supports, women having abortions, and doctors or clinics that perform abortions face backlash from those protesting against it. Those who fight against have their reasons but the main one is that is always present is that you are killing a human life by aborting a baby even in the earliest stages of the pregnancy. Though many disapprove of this practice there are many safe procedures that are developed for each trimester of pregnancy. As I stand on the ground that lies between fully Pro- choice and fully Pro- life I believe there are limitations to which abortions should occur. Many women who seek an abortion for whatever circumstances (unplanned pregnancy, raped, or health problems that would harm themselves or their future baby) are given a brief run down on the procedure and its risk factors based off how far along they are. The procedure commonly used within the first trimester (1- 12 weeks) is frequently “The Abortion Pill” or Mifeprex® which is considered a chemical abortion. (Abortion Procedures) This pill, according to the article, “Abortion Procedures”, changes the woman’s hormones along with progesterone while cutting of the necessary nutrition and blood for the embryo to grow and develop into a fetus. After taking Mifeprex® she would then return to her doctor and receive the second pill for the abortion in which she takes orally or vaginally and the result of this pill is the ousting of the embryo due to the contraction of her uterus.
