In this case the Jungian analysis fit perfectly, but I had some struggles with the Proppian analysis. The Jungian analysis was easy due to the large amount of characters impacting Crane's life which lead him to be the hero he was. When it came to the Proppian analysis the main reason why I struggled with it was because it was hard to apply this unique tale to all the steps in the analysis. Within the Preparatory part the step of absentation is missing because crane didn’t have a family of his own. Then the step of violation doesn’t occur because he follows the orders he was given. Then the final step the didn’t occur in the preparatory part was the reconnaissance because the true villain wasn’t recognized until the end of the story.
