Essay One Since the death of Prophet Muhammad, the expansion of Islam has been evident beyond the Arabian Peninsula and specifically Makkah town. In the contemporary society, Islam is practiced in each continent and region including Africa, Europe, Nothern India and Southwest Asia. The spread of Islam has been motivated by the migration of Muslims to other regions of the world and the conversion of individuals from other religions to Islam. Military campaigns after the Hijrah era led to a rapid expansion of the territory under the Muslims. However, the territory did not become Islamic immediately; the spread of the religion took some centuries. When Muhammad died in 632, he left the Arabian Peninsula under the rule of the Muslims. Later on, the Muslims conquered the Persians and the Byzantine armies and resultantly, they brought Iraq, Syria, Egypt and Iran under their rule. One of the main political impacts that the expansion of Islam had in regions such as Europe, Asia, and Africa included the spread of the caliphate system of ruling, where the state becomes Islamized fully. Notably, some of the kings in Africa used the Islamic religion to strengthen their political power. Economically, the Muslims intensified the trading activities because of the existence of influential trading merchants in Islam. In the different continents, the Muslims exchanged goods such as gold with other items, which promoted barter trade. The cultural implications are evident in language, mode of dressing, lifestyle, and architecture among others. For instance, some of the words used in some African language borrowed heavily from Arabic, which was spread by the Muslims.
