I need to take charge of my life and do what I know I am capable of. I need to create a voice for myself and in order to do that, I need to act and not ask. I believe this mantra will help me become a better student as I would become more focused on what I want and will never take no for an answer. I will show people through my actions that I can be an essential member of any group I want to join. Another mantra that has also impacted me is “Walk with a purpose”. This quote inspires me to endure any hardships I experience for two reasons: it reminds me that there could be more difficult events I could face, and that my reward for enduring it will be a meaningful life experience. Because everyone experiences hardships in life, I can look at this quote and be reassured that I am not the only one with a certain problem, but I am also convinced that many people live through more severe events and therefore I can definitely withstand whatever life may give me. When I look at this quote, I recall all my past troubles and, more importantly, what I learned from those. The quote is similar in message to the “hang in there!”…

THE EIGHT FOOT CIRCLE “Stand up for what you believe in even if that means standing alone”. When I was younger and got my first opportunity to stand up for myself without anyone pushing me to succeed things didn't go as planned. Although I didn't succeeded I took a lesson from it in the end. “Play ball” the umpire called out as we jogged on to the field. Like every game before I headed for third base.…

Having a life with meaning and significance is one of the most common and universal goals in the world. However, dreaming of having a sense of purpose is one thing, and actually achieving it is a whole other challenge. Philosophy of Reading I am someone who loves children, and knowing that I am one step closer to having my own classroom gives me a huge sense of hope and joy. If I can help just one child, I feel an irresistible sense of accomplishment; and as a teacher I will have the opportunity to help many children. To succeed as a teacher, I need each one of my students to succeed. In the quote by Christopher Columbus he states “By prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal or destination” I thought this quote pertained to me because I know this year there are going to be many obstacles in English class, but if I just push myself I know I can reach my goal. As a reader and writer, I believe that I have grown stronger over the years. In the past, I did not like reading at all I would try to get by with reading as little of the stories as possible in order to pass. I felt this way until this summer when I started to read the books for English.…

My approach to reading has changed over the semester. Before this class, I would just read without taking notes. When I look up the difficult word, I would find the closest appropriate definition.…
