The progressive movement transformed American culture. When senators were elected by the public instead of being appointed was revolutionary. The people now had a voice, they never thought they would get. Theodore Roosevelt was a reformer; he realized the relationship with big business did not have the good for the country in mind, he worked on fixing this issue. Interestingly enough, Roosevelt was also a conservationist and worked to defend national parks and wildlife refuges. William Taft was Roosevelt’s successor, he broke some of the monopolies and continued to reform efforts.
