For many years People have been leaving their country and coming to America in hopes of accomplishing the “american dream” they are always hearing about but when they arrive to the States what happens next? Presumably what they came here to do: work hard to provide for their families back home but finding a stable place to work at, finding a place to live, and also have the security to walk outside safely without ins coming for or people throwing racist insults at one can be hard. This is something that has been happening for about 200 years and the US doesn’t seem to have a system established when it comes to the topic of immigration. While the United States has reached out to help immigrants by providing …show more content…
In the year 1848 miners found gold in the california area. This sparked the interest of many people around the world seeking riches to help their family. In order to go collect this gold many men left their wives and kids behind to go chase the dream. A majority of these immigrants came from Asia but the immigrant population was pretty diverse. The evidence that supports my claim is from the document “California gold rush”. This document talks about the history of the gold rush. “ Fully one-third of the “forty-niners” were immigrants… The immigrant groups were equally diverse, coming from Mexico, China, France, Germany, Russia, Ireland, Italy, the West Indies, and even as far away as Australia.” This shows that many people from all over the world came to california to seeks for the gold many were talking about. This shows that people from all over the world came after the gold. While this is good it was also bad. After the amnesty was passed in 1986 people were happy but concerned. They were unsure on what would come next. In1990 they passed an act similar to the one in the 1920’s. It allowed people to come in legally but this time everyone was included. While it was a step in the way to progress many people didn’t know if it was a good idea. The evidence is from a new release from september 1990. In this evidence it talks about what the act would bring. “ The good news is that now there will be more green cards, or immigrant visas, for foreign-born students and faculty who want to live and work permanently in the United States. The bad news is that there will be a cap on H-1 visas for short-term visiting professors and research associates, and there is going to be "tremendous delay" in processing those visa applications in the year ahead.” This quote tells us it gave many people worldwide the chance to visit the us but people who are here just for a limited time will have problems. This was good and bad but many people were finding that the effects were greater than they seem. The evidence comes from another document Immigration Act of 1990. The quote talks more about the effects that this act set forward. “This unexpected event produced both positive and negative effects. First, the increase in skilled workers allowed the United States to compensate for the depletion of skilled workers in many fields. However, the
