Personal Narrative: My Problems In Middle School

Superior Essays
I personally have three problems that have stuck with me for quite a while now and these problems have been troubling me during middle school all the way through high school. During middle school I frequently had a problem with procrastinating since I could remember. For me, I was and still am struggling with procrastination. I have had many times where I procrastinated on assignments. Here is an example of one of those times where I procrastinated on an assignment. When I woke up at 6:00 am it was chilly and gray morning on January 27,2014. I was groggy when I got out of bed and stood up. I quickly got changed and headed to the kitchen. Once there, …show more content…
I remembered in my Freshman year my English teacher assigned the class an essay to write. The topic was “Discuss a personal experience that has affected you and why?” and the teacher said the essay was due tomorrow at the beginning of class and was a major test grade. He also said that it needed to be two pages long and we could work on it in class as well. He allowed us to work on essay in class and I grabbed a paper and a pencil. I started to write my rough draft on the paper. I started to write on the paper as I started to write. When I finished my rough draft I realized it was very unstructured. I was trying to make another rough draft but the bell rang. I went to my other classes and after that I went home. After I got home, I started to continue in my rough draft once more. Once again, I finished it and I read once more. It still was unstructured and the paragraphs were not organized. I rewrote it again and reread it. I research online about structure and I finally produced an essay with a structured format. The next day, I went to my class as the teacher walked into the class. I walked over to his desk and handed him my essay. After this essay I would stress even more about structure. I would be on the Internet for hours researching about structure. This problem has stuck with me so long because the problem has stayed with me since middle school. I often would be worried about the structure of the essay. I had to work on a number of essays to get better in

It was the year of 2014 going into 2015 and I was an eighth grader. This was my second year attending Bennett Academy charter school. My English language arts teacher, Ms. Walton, had told to my classmates and me that in mid-November we will begin to start our huge assignment. That assignment was to be completed before the graduation date of May 21st, 2015. Ms. Walton told us that we need to have at least fifty pages and no less.…

I remember the first time I wrote an essay that was being graded at the college level. This was in my junior year when I took AP Language and Composition, our first essay was a rhetorical analysis essay from a very old excerpt that used old english and was very hard to read. When I first started reading the passage I started to get nervous because I didn't understand what the text was saying but then I started to annotate and the passage began to make sense. I found many rhetorical strategies that the author used and I then began to outline the essay in my head.…

Forming a good topic sentence is confusing; also, I always look back at books for editing grammar on how to use commas, colons, and semi-colons properly, and refer to the dictionary and thesaurus for better word choice, which consumes more time rather than writing a draft and generating ideas combined. Therefore, the next time I write paragraphs, I will work more on polishing my draft; by doing so, it will lessen the time needed to edit my draft. All in all , I enjoyed doing the whole writing process, because I feel I am close to writing excellent paragraphs. Disregarding one step from the writing process may seem alright but, for me as a growing writer, I’d love to be challenged by doing it…

Maybe it was the position in the classroom that I was sitting in. I could certainly write a three page essay on that. The real reason this experience is unique to me is because of my father. My father has been an infrequent figure in my life, and our relationship is not the greatest. It is very hard to hold conversations with him because I do not have any idea what is going on in his life.…

“Don’t forget, the paper is due next Wednesday!” My 8th period teacher, Mrs. Oakford told to my class and I as we streamed out of the cramped classroom on a Friday. We couldn’t wait to bust out of the schools doors and claim our prize of a short freedom for surviving another busy, exhausting, and slow week of middle school. I rushed to my locker, grabbed everything I would need for the homework due Monday, threw it in my bag and headed down the hall collecting my friends to walk to town to start what I would hope would be a slow but fun weekend off The weekend went quicker than I wished and before I knew it, it was late Sunday night and I still hadn’t done my homework, I realized this and got to work.…

A technique taught to me in highschool but was never put to use and just now has been reiterated by the person mentioned in the previous paragraphs Mrs. Moebs. This has shown to be a successful tip when trying to do research and enhancing transition sentences. As said by smart-words.org “transition words are essential, since they not only connect ideas, but also can introduce a certain shift, contrast or opposition, emphasis or agreement, purpose, result or conclusion”. Provided you put things in order the easier it is to follow along as the reader. In addition, writer Jesse Lopez from The Collegian magazine has said “if it’s a good outline, writers can simply flesh it out to make the first draft.”…

The second week came and my first assignment was due. It was to tell story, and I was grateful because I knew I had a story to tell. I wrote about the birth of my niece, which was anything but routine. I tried to write it in the same way that I always had, the way that wasn’t exactly to the level I should be at, but one I knew I was capable of. From this point on I knew I was locked in, which meant I would have a paper due every Wednesday from here on out.…
