Satirical Essay: The Problems Of Globalization

In the first comic, it depicts a family whom has recently went on a trip around the world, each commenting on the items they bought during their travels, which are all buyable in North America and how they’re so proud of buying ‘foreign’ objects overseas, despite the fact that I noted early about the products all being commonplace in North America. The title which says ‘The Problems of Globalization’ also helps illustrate this. This satirical piece reveals how, due to North America’s influence over media, products, and the amount of stores that are overseas originating from North America, how a majority of merchandise that may seem ‘special’ due to being bought overseas are far from that. The comic also spreads light on just how many companies …show more content…
In comics one and two, we see how the outsourcing of labor makes products more accessible in the country that the labor is being outsourced to and how due to this, many of the tourist made products are most likely and item that one could find in their home country. In the comics one and three, we see how globalization and the denial or removal of public services for the good of a company and its next cash cow will also spread throughout the world due to globalization and that soon that company might be able to be seen more frequently when going on trips meant to get you away from such common sights at home. In the comics two and three, they overview how due to the outsourcing of labor and the exploitation of large multinationals unto the public are able to not only make citizens of a first world country not have jobs, but also be very susceptible to being poor and possibly neglected, due to not having both public services AND a job that isn’t taken or being outsourced as indentured labor. The one thing I have noticed that ties all the comics together is that all of them have to do with a large corporation taking advantage of globalization, the ability to outsource labor and the ability to make public services obsolete, to add more money in the bank for their company while taking advantage of consumers along the

In his book titled “The Future of Life”, Edward O. Wilson effectively utilizes satire to illustrate the unproductive nature of an Environmentalist versus People-First debate. By lacking a complete arsenal of constructively, statistically, and logically correct arguments, both point of views were explained with the use of overly dramatic irony, extreme real life examples, and outlandishly childish name-calling. Wilson is able to depict a ludicrous display of an utmost unconstructive argument that ultimately leads to nothing except for the undermining of both parties. One of the highlighting uses of satire that Wilson was able to incorporate, was the manner in which both sides attempted to weaken the opposition with the use of unproductive name-calling. We witness this immature behavior in that the People-First would refer to the…

Satire is an important element in writing. It’s a way for writers to take a step back and comment on something; to show how ridiculous it is without just flat out saying it. Satire is usually used as a fun way of pointing out the faults in society and current events. The Other Paris by Mavis Gallant was written in 1956, barely a decade after World War 2 finished, the world was rebuilding and marriage was seen as a safe option, a way to move forward and start a life together. The main character of The Other Paris, Carol thinks of marriage as a security blanket rather than a lifelong commitment to the one you love, she accepts a proposal from a man named Howard, a man she hadn’t even known for three weeks…simply because she assumes that nobody…

Pietra Rivoli's novel The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy explores society on a global perspective as it dawns on the foundations and the situation of the world economy. Through a comprehensive investigative report, Rivoli dedicated her life to a noteworthy cause and exposed the fabric of not only society but rather how the world works. The challenges she surpassed amount to how the message she wanted to spread and disperse started out as a speck of curiosity from a t-shirt on sale and then morphed into an adventure uncovering the tides, twists, and turns of the global economy. Thus, the entrancing ideas of this global phenomenon led to a fascinating discovery which opened up Rivoli’s and society’s eyes to the bigger picture and the definition of global society.…

Samuel L. Jackson once said, “We’ve come a long way in our thinking, but also in our moral decay.” This quote holds true today as society stays rapidly changing and people become more and more desensitized to the horrors of the world. The line between right and wrong fades and turns to a larger gray area, and many things that happen in society today make us question how we, as a collective people, ended up where we are and how we acquired the customs we have today. Aldous Huxley, in his novel Brave New World, uses a great deal of satire and exaggeration to express his concerns for the society he was born into and bring attention to the problems of moral decay, drug dependency, and brainwashing, among other things, in the world.…

As Timmerman travels to China, he is told by a couple of factory workers that in order to secure their job at their factory, they work extra hours without pay just to impress their bosses. He recalls that Zhu Chun and Dewan work extra hours in China that can sometimes be an 18 hour day, but don’t get paid for their extra hours, instead, they just feel more secure that they will keep their job. Timmerman sees this as a negative aspect of globalization because although more workers are able to get jobs, these jobs are not very secure, and people have to take certain precautions to avoid being laid off of their job. So all in all, even though workers get jobs, they don’t feel confident they will keep these jobs, and as a result, they are forced to work many extra hours. This is also evident in Cambodia, when Nari tells Timmerman that she had to bribe an interviewer to get a job.…

Brave New World is a cautionary satire that illustrates the dangers of an over-controlled society by dictators who attempt to create a “utopia” created on the foundation of “Community, Identity, and Stability”. In order to achieve a “utopia”, World State deprives arts, religion, and relationships from their citizens. Huxley’s novel shows the negative effects of ignoring one of Golda Meir’s beliefs that “One cannot and must not try to erase the past merely because it does not fit the present.” Meir uses denotative diction to suggest that the past is not an evil and is actually a necessity, even if it is different from the present. Today history books in classrooms are censoring major events in history, such as slavery, because it no longer…
