The Problem Of Overpopulation

Decent Essays
Over population is actually a problem that many countries across the world are currently dealing with. Across the world countries such as China, United States, and Japan over population is a growing problem. In a country like China the problem becomes a bigger issue when there are limited resources to supplement the growing population. As I read and learned more about overpopulation I came across a very good article that explained in detail the problems with overpopulation and how it really is a problem, within the article we are able to learn about other countries, countries that we are aware that their population is constantly growing and causing a problem, but then I also came across with the issues that the united states is dealing with, …show more content…
We learn the difference between a community and a population. Although we did not cover specifically the topic relating to human population it does give us a visual aid of what a population is to understand the terms under and over. It does just not relate to that topic but the fact the we are able to understand that if a country is overpopulated with humans, we have to think about the animals as well, this planet is just not our home it 's the home to several species. So overpopulation does not only affect us. In one of the articles that I read I came across a certain statement that really caught my attention, we are constantly cutting out our trees and forest in order to build supermarkets or apartment complexes, so living areas are starting to look bigger than pasture areas. Trees are a form of life and the issue with overpopulation also affects them as well because we massively tear them down for the sole purpose or benefiting our …show more content…
Over population is certainly a problem that affects certain countries more than others, in countries such as China, over population has become a big issue, and that explains the law as to why they can only have one children and they have to pay a fine for additional children. This at some point sounds inhumane but it is the method that China is using to balance their very overpopulated country. Why should a country decide such thing you may ask yourself, but many of us have to understand that resources play a big role in trying to control the population, as stated in one of the articles that I read, “Overpopulation is rapidly depleting the earth 's resources.” (Wooldridge, Frosty) As humans one of our goals as mankind is to reproduce, but how do we carry on with reproducing when our generation is slowly depleting our resources. We need to balance everything out; making every country do the same thing China is doing is of course not the correct way to approach every country but people in countries that are very over populated should understand that resources are limited. Policies to Manage Population Increases Experts have realized that the increase in population has negative effects on the biosphere. Over the years, population has risen at staggering rates. The increase calls for more homes to be built, leading to the tearing down of trees, referred as deforestation. One thing for sure, trees are needed to absorb some of the toxins and release oxygen back into the air. The increase of human population along with deforestation has been the root of our problems.…

Overpopulation exists and is very prevalent in some of the largest countries in the world. It especially exists in many major countries such as China and India. This is why policies are implemented in order to reduce the overpopulation in these countries, such as China’s one-child policy. The one-child policy was created in 1980, when the government wanted to enforce family planning to avoid excess procreation. This complex policy has many external factors that make it run somewhat smoothly.…

You do not see doctors withholding statin drugs to patients with heart problems simply because our earth is overpopulated. In fact, if we were to argue over means of population control, then it would make more sense to save the young and healthy than the old and sick. More of my opponents, specifically authoritarians, would perceive my ideas to be unrealistic and shortsighted, that we as a civilization will not be able to function without governmental control of a strong military, but there are plenty of concrete examples of countries who do not have armed forces that are doing just fine. Even if complete disposal of our military is not found to be plausible, we can…

In 1798, Reverend Thomas Malthus said that the earth’s population would grow more quickly then we are able to produce resources, such as food (Dimick). He hypothesized that the population would grow geometrically, meaning it would double, while the amount of resources we have would only grow arithmetically (Dimick). What are the leading contributors to overpopulation and lack of resources, and what can country’s do specifically to fix the gap? Overpopulation is defined as “an undesirable condition where the number of existing human population exceeds the carrying capacity of the earth (Kukreja)”. Since the Bubonic Plague in the 1400’s Earths population has been in a constant rise, and even though there has been a number or wars and other hazards…

In the article “Animals Under Siege”, the author states that “tropical forests are home to the greatest concentration of biodiversity on the planet.” If these forests are the most densely packed areas of life, they should therefore be the most protected areas in the world, but that is not the case. For example, the growing human population is threatening 32% of all amphibian species in the world (“amphibian extinctions”). The amount of land dedicated to crops for human and livestock consumption will grow exponentially with the population, putting forest dwelling creatures at risk of extinction. If human population reaches a point in which there are too many mouths to feed and not enough room to grow food, these life-enriched forests will suffer.…

The issue some say is not the number of occupants but the amount each occupant consumes. If people could learn to only use what is necessary to sustain themselves then the number of occupants would not be a factor in determining if one area really is over populated. Currently thanks in part to the Green Revolution global food production is multiplying much faster than population growth. Our ability to manufacture and transport foods has made it possible for the carrying capacity to greatly increase. Although it has helped tremendously relying on technology could be detrimental, if it fails the world may starve (Shelly…

Ironically, their issue isn’t how fast the population is reproducing. The issue is they are struggling is that don’t have enough people to replace their baby boomers. The reason China is facing this struggle is for 2 reasons the first is that the implemented a one child policy per a family because, the Chinese government was concerned about the rate of population growth growing at uncontrollable rate. Like many Asian cultures, they place a great deal of responsibility on the first son.…
