Identifying Need
In 1985, with the introduction of computers in schools, the ratio of students to computers was 63:1(Kress 2011). Today, approximately ninety-nine percent of the schools in the country have access to the internet, and the ratio of student-to-computer has greatly decreased to 4:1(Kress 2011). Computer use has become an increasingly vital part of academia. Computers have become integrated into the learning process in academic institutions. By analyzing how personal computers are used in classrooms, there can be a plan made to combat the use on computers for non-academic task especially in schools. The evidence provided above indicate that personal computers are a distraction from what is being taught in class. Not only does it distract and students perform worse on test, but laptops affect how the professor engages the classroom and how the professor feels because he/she needs to compete with these electronic devices. The best possible solution could be that of policy that would target how computers are used in lectures. This solution targets the root cause of the problem which is on the education of how technology affects education. By being better informed, professors, students, parents could take the necessary measures to ensure students are well prepared and understand the concepts of their individual classes. The tool needed for this solution is an assessment of how to better prevent laptops from becoming a distraction and using laptops as a tool for success. Professors, students, academics, board of education, policy makers, technology corporations all need to be involve in order to create solution that will help the education system. All these members mentioned above are interested in improving the education system in this country. A better education system means better prepared individuals that can replace the existing work force of different disciplines and jobs across the board. Having better prepared individual will mean a more prosperous and thriving economy and workforce. Conducting evaluation, and policy analysis can help indicate if the proposed intervention is a success and is working. Technology is the future, and there needs to be positive correlation between education and computers in the education
