America's standard of public education has fallen into a deep decline over the last decade. School should be better constructed to teach kids how to prepare for adult life and the real world. Many of the things taught today in school have little to no value to students after they graduate. Curriculum should involve very crucial life skills such as people skills, critical thinking, and financial management. Our Education System barely does anything to cater to those needs, which sets kids up for failure later in life.…

In the article “ Why the United States Is Destroying It’s Education System,” the American journalist Chris Hedges goes into a broad view of what’s taking place in American schools, how teachers are treated like second class citizens, in addition to large business 's and what it’s doing to our schools. Does Hedges provide well enough thought out information and points to make for an article disagreeing against big business and standardized testing? Hedges presents a strong argument by stating business and religion need to stay out of the school system when it comes to teaching our children; however, Hedges fails to understand the importance of big business to future generations, and he undervalues the importance of standardized test to make…

Prior to high school, my middle school recommended that I attend “Grant High School”, which was looked down upon by my parents due to its reputation. Grant High School only has a 78% graduation rate. My father had been planning on surprising me with an opportunity of a lifetime and began planning since I was in 7th grade. I left my friends and current life behind to move to a place called Oak Park to attend Oak Park High School, which is ranked in the top 100 public schools in the nation and a graduation rate of 99%. I truly believe this is the reason I am here at San Diego State University today, because I was given an opportunity I may not have received by attending Grant High School.…

Jean Anyon in “Social Class and The Hidden Curriculum of Work” shows that in some schools they don’t have the right teachers or material because of the economy or the neighborhood the schools are located. Also low-income people do not get the same education as people with a good economy.…

The American education system robs its students of learning a foreign language until high school. This disadvantages our youth and provides them obstacles that makes them ignorant to other languages and cultures. Waiting until high school to teach foreign language places American students behind the students of other countries. The average European country begins teaching one or more languages early in a student’s educational career. Unlike the United States, European countries are actively trying to broaden their pupils' education by introducing at least one foreign language besides their national or native language at a young age.…

Education: school funding disparity Years ago, United States (U.S.) Public School was one of the best places that gave opportunities to children from different background and race to come together and be educated. However, with the occurrence of income inequality among Americans, the education system has changed profoundly in the way that today there is a certain inequality in public school specifically in public school funding. Currently, the school funding structure in U.S. education system promotes the growth and intellectual development of students from rich families, but limits the educational prospects of students from poor families. The results of this disparity have placed students educated in poorer school districts, at an overwhelming disadvantage, while creating a competitive advantage for students educated in rich school districts.…

Education is an integral part to the advancement of any great nation. In America, basic education is required by law. The education in this country has inherently deep rooted problems that many are not willing to address, either for fear of making an unpopular claim, or simply from lack of thought on the subject matter. Initially, the grading system in America was implemented to display a student’s knowledge or academic understanding of a subject matter, but it has become so much more... or less. Now, the grading system ranks students against each other and has become a status symbol for some.…

Good morning Crisanta! I like the idea that you brought up our society’s concern about conflict in the American education; that is the difference in skin color between students who are attending the same school. Actually, skin color cannot tell us anything deep inside a person’s heart or mind; it is just simply a different color than other colors existing on the earth. Unfortunately, due to segregation and discrimination, people still assume that skin color is the main factor when they want to judge someone else. And, to me, it is actually not fair.…

Ever since the origin of our species, education can be eluded to be the epicenter of our survival. The Darwinian process in which humans learned what to do and what not to do dictated their daily lives, and that knowledge was passed on to their successors, which eventually made its way onto us, the modern day human being. Historically, education in America has served both political and economic needs as it played a major role in facilitating the growth of our nation. What was once regarded to be the nation containing the best education system in the world, America seems to have been falling short of its goals.…

Education is and always will be one of the most important factors in society and an emphasis on everyone’s well-being of learning. Not just math, reading, and science but social interaction among students and adults. With this being said, education is viewed on many avenues such as public schooling, private schooling, and home schooling. Public education gives everyone an equal opportunity to get an education. Private schools are a non-government school and that means they are allowed to choose who gets into their school and who doesn’t.…

Thomas Jefferson said that the goal of schools and getting an education is to “understand the duties to his neighbors or countries, and to discharge with competence the functions confided to him by either, to know his rights; to exercise with order and justice those he retains (High School Made You a Better Person).” Our education needs to focus on the aspects of learning, but also on developing students into future citizens of this country with moral standards. Society needs education to meets the demands for the new fad that may be sweeping the country, but that should not take away from the fact that students need to learn how to be good and moral citizens. When you help develop a student 's moral standard you also help them become more social because it causes them to interact with other students. The ways schools teach should not vary because of a social status, or an economic situation.…

Most of our school systems revolve around academics and yet, it is extremely poor of what kids need. From Pre-Kindergarten to University, I truthfully believe our school system of education is deeply overvalued. Students like myself aren’t the only ones displeased about the education system, at least one third of mothers and fathers are dissatisfied with standards at local schools and there is no wonder why. If you ask any child, kindergartner or 8th grader what they disliked most about school, they’ll say something along these lines, “I hate the tests.” Students and parents of grade school and even University shouldn 't question their standards and school shouldn’t feel like a knot of stress falling on their shoulders.…
