These are known as ‘master ideas’ as per Theodore Roszac. We sometimes might not have a reason for why we do a certain task in a certain way. This means that there are master ideas that have been embedded inside us or in today’s technical language we can say that we have been programmed with these ideas since the day we were born. We tend to develop some point of view about certain things that happen in our periphery according what our parents think or more broadly how our family thinks about it without knowing the exact reason behind it. In a similar fashion students have developed math phobia just because their parents and teachers faced it. Thus, students think that they should also face the same problems their elders faced. Studies have shown that when students are exposed timed tests and a constraint has to put on them to do good in less time, they tend to perform bad. A research was conducted by a professor showed that students exposed to timed one minute tests for seven weeks showed less cognitive growth as compared to students who were exposed to fun learning activities. Schools need to know that there is difference between every student and how well and fast they can understand concepts. Instead of teaching students according to their ability and aptitude, every student is taught at a similar pace due to which some of them lag behind and start to hate the subject. In addition, school curriculum is more focused to getting correct answers and thus teachers tend to force students who end up memorizing things that needs to be understood.
