The animal problem in Caldwell County is euthanization. Too many cats and dogs are being killed because of animal overpopulation. Numbers have been declining since 2011, but in 2013 still 2,902 animals were euthanized. The Caldwell County Animal Shelter is a contributor to this problem. To solve the problem of innocent animals being put down, a no-kill policy should be enforced. This includes ending euthanization and preventing animal overpopulation. Stopping the euthanization in the shelter will require expanding the shelter so it can hold more animals. A foster system needs to be implemented to help the shelter with caring for and socializing animals. To further prevent cats and dogs from being abandoned and put into the shelter, precautions …show more content…

Controversial Topics: Kill Shelters About six million pets are housed in shelters each year in the United States of America, but only about two million are adopted. There are several types of shelters that animals reside in, with positives and negatives of their own kind for each. The most common of these different types of shelters are Kill Shelters and “No-Kill” Shelters, both of which take part in an ongoing and very pressing controversial topic. Kill Shelters, frequently called Open Admission Shelters, are shelters that kill animals after keeping them for a while to make room for other animals. “No-Kill” Shelters, known otherwise as Limited Admission Shelters, do not kill animals regardless of the amount of time they have resided in the shelter.…

The pet overpopulation problem in the United States is sickening to me as a human being. We allow people to profit from the breeding of their pets when there are too many animals being euthanized every day in shelters. Animals in our shelters are fighting for their lives every single day, and yet we are allowing breeders and puppy mills to continue to produce more and more animals. Pet ownership is not a right. Pet owners have a responsibility to leash their animals, dispose of their waste properly and to spay or neuter their animals.…

Topic: Adopting and Rescuing Animals Specific Purpose: To persuade my effective speaking class the benefits of adopting a pet over buying one from a breeder or pet store. Central Idea: Adopting animals and rescuing is much more beneficial than buying an animal from a pet store because you won’t be unknowingly or knowingly supporting a puppy mill, you will be saving an animal’s life, and you will feel better overall in the end about rescuing your new pet rather than buying. INTRODUCTION Attention-Getter: According to Humane Society of the United States organization’s website I accessed on December 6, 2016, “Each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States, simply because too many pets come into shelters and…
