Homelessness is defined the unavailability of a fixed and regular night time living place. There is no definite definition of homelessness. Homelessness lies somewhere between having no specific place of residence, roofless houses and residence in bad housing setting (Bhugra). According to the stipulations of the millennium development goals, a person is considered poor if they live below $1 per day (Abdulai and Shamshiry). However, the lack of a permanent place of residence is a major indicator of poverty in any one country. Personal development is inhibited by the loss of skills caused by the inability to sit back and think about employment due to overthinking on the housing problem. Lack of a proper living place also harms people’s flexibility, self-confidence and self- esteem. Poverty is most prevalent in the 3rd world countries, a woman giving birth dies due to inability to cater for adequate maternal care. In the poor countries also, an average of 20 children die of avoidable diseases such as malaria of diarrhea (Green). There exists a direct positive correlation between poverty and homelessness, but poverty does not always lead to homelessness. However, the underlying cause of homelessness is poverty.
