One child, in particular, was severely overweight and his doctor recommended this child get gastric bypass surgery, which is a very harsh surgery with little success rate. His "health" insurance agreed to pay 10,000 dollars for this procedure. His parents agreed to the surgery and initially he lost 50 pounds. Then a year later he put the weight right back on. Now if this doctor and insurance company really cared about this child 's health they would 've taken a completely different approach. 10,000 dollars would have been enough money for him to pay for a personal trainer, meal prep, and a ride to the gym every day. These professionals would 've provided a 1-year plan of exercise and diet, and would 've educated the parents on how to support their son during this plan. Not only would this child have lost weight with this approach, he would 've gotten his health back in order, in addition to developing the necessary habits to keep losing weight and keep the weight off.
