The main problem with food is simple, food supply “grows arithmetically, but population grows geometrically”(Debitage). Arithmetic growth means that something grows by the same amount in each time interval. While geometric growth means that something grows more exponentially or that it gets bigger at a faster rate as time goes on. As one can easily tell, this is not a good thing. There is no easy way to say this, but people need to stop having so many kids. The food production this earth is currently producing is not going to be enough pretty soon.
Thankfully, there is a solution to this problem, but most people are scared of it. GMO’s meaning genetically modified organisms-or more specifically genetically modified food. GMO’s can be defined as “ in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination” (The Global Challenge). The reason this solution could be effective is by how easily and quickly these foods can be made. They can be made so quickly because of the ability to multiply/change/make-better the genes in food to supply the growing needs for more food across the globe. Most people do not like this because they believe that if it is not natural food then it is bad for someone to eat. No one wants food made in a lab. Although its image is made to appear sickly, as far as the public opinions on it goes, many foods in stores today are genetically modified foods. They have minimal health risks,…
