Cyberwarfare is now an integrated part of China’s military strategy according to the US Department of Defense. And in January 2010, Google announced that a major cyber attack from China had penetrated its corporate infrastructure and stolen information from its computers. This raises the awareness that cybersecurity have become an important role in national security. Cyber attack can be used in three major categories — economic, military and social adversaries. For example, China hacked into Gmail accounts of some human rights activists to strike social adversaries; Military concern is the most important in cybersecurity because hacking into the Pentagon can result in the leak of sensitive military deploy. Indeed, serval feminist theories explain the gender gap is created by unequal treatment between men and women in the cybersecurity field, which emphasizes salaries are biased between genders and contributions of individual from different genders are not counted as the same …show more content…
First, it exsits an engineering, science gender gap in education. To illustrate, it’s common to acknowledge men outnumber women as much as 8 to 2 in a given Computer class from most universities in the United States (Olson). Hardline Heilman, a psychology professor at New York University, said the engineering, science gender gap is due mostly by a gender stereotype, which states “women are seen as communal, caring, emotional and concerned about others; men as intellectual, rational, logical” (Marder). Furthermore, Heilman also points out that women are not generally celebrated when they do excel in male-dominated jobs. Therefore, a solution to encourage female to participate more in engineering and CS classes is necessary. Since, there’s a lack of female mentor, I’d like to recommend to hold more of mentor programs on engineering and science in college for female students. Secondly, gender gap in cyber security field implies women are being subtle discriminating in military field. Truly, sexually assaulting always occurs more often in military field than the other industries. For example, in 2010, roughly 19,000 sexual assaults occurred in the military (Do someting). Hence, a stricter rule against sexual harassment and more punishment on sexual assault can reassure female to participate in military field. Furthermore, gender stereotypes, which states women are not able to conduct military tasks because
