The Problem Of Chelsea Buses

Improved Essays
Has a student you know ever received a C- on a test? Majority of students would say yes. Whoever has received a bad grade is not a bad person, but you probably did not get enough sleep last night, or did not get enough time to study. A problem facing students today is how early they wake up to catch the bus. I know this does not affect all students, but more than half of America’s school children ride the bus. Chelsea buses pick up middle and high school students, meaning there has to be more time added to pickup and drop off. This also adds time to be able to drop off every child. Students are not getting enough sleep because of how early buses come, so Chelsea can purchase buses for the middle school and high school, costing around $2,472,060 (for one year of paying 24 bus drivers). It would cost $701,280 every following year for the annual salary of 24 bus drivers. …show more content…
This mostly affects Chelsea Middle and Chelsea High school students. The Mt. Laurel Elementary school bus comes to houses to pick up students at 7:05, while the middle and high school bus comes at 6:30 (these times are for one of the last stops for both buses). This is a problem because students are not getting enough sleep, which is leading to a lack of focus in classrooms. Some students at Chelsea Middle School have been interviewed. These students are tired and have to wake up early for school. Lack of sleep can cause less focus for students which leads to bad

Some citizens of Boston may not know about the segregation among the schools and the amount of time it took for every race to settle in and get along. Boston Busing was when the Boston Public Schools tried to desegregate schools by busing students to different areas of Boston. Some may say that Boston Busing was effective because it brought together two different races and cultures, but the plan was flawed and forced busing only made segregation worse which made boston busing ineffective. The plan was poorly thought out , it didn’t address the root cause , and it was implemented in a short time frame. The city of boston was purposely segregated, white people and black people were steered into different areas by racist real estate agents.…

It is an ongoing argument on whether high school students should arrive at schools later to help the teens who are sleep deprived, depressed and have serious mood swings. This is inconvenient for a number of reasons. Parents cannot get their children to school on time if the school time is changed, and it interrupts the teens schedules who are already accustomed to the 7:30 time scheduling. In the passage “ High schools starting later to help sleepy teens” by: Michelle Trudeau it states that later school times are helping the teens be more alert in class, they have less depression issues and the parents have less problems than before due to their emotions being more regulated.…

A national sleep foundation poll found that 59% of 6th through 8th graders, as well as 87% of high schoolers, are getting less than the recommended amount of sleep on school nights. This often affects how attentive kids are when they get to school and can have a negative impact on the rest of their day. When students are tired they often don't take in the information they would otherwise pick up with an adequate amount of sleep. Schools should start later to ensure the success of its students.…

It has become troublesome and confusing to me as to why our local school district would require children in intermediate school (10 to 12 years old) to start school at 7:40 a.m. Please note that this is their start time and doesn’t include their actual wake up time, prep time and travel to school. As I began to research this more in depth I was stunned to find the numerous effects and potential effects in relation to academics, physiological and the emotional distress it could have on students. My wife and I also reached out to other students’ parents and became even more intrigued as that they shared the same concerns and problems they recently were seeing in their own children. I honestly believe when something becomes more personal…

Has your school ever caught you snoozing in class. If so schools should push back the school's bell schedule because it give the students more sleep and feel more energized for school. I live in Illinois western suburb of Chicago; I spent my four years education in Lake Park high school that located in Roselle. Here is my experiences about U.S. high school: groggy and grumpy students falling asleep during class, student perform poorly in school academic achievement; as well as lead to abominable behaviors such as excessive drinking , smoke tobaccos and drug taking to eliminate their stress and anxiety level etc. Indeed, early school start times and sleep deprivation in teens have always been a significant controversial simultaneously unsolved problem in today’s educational system.…

High School and Middle School Days Should Start Later Should middle school and high school days start later in the day? In my opinion, I don't think it should. Furthermore, while earlier start times may encourage adolescents to be responsible for managing their time to get ready and be on time for school, teens would create poor sleep habits as they develop anxiety and stress from being required to wake up early. Furthermore, even if they would have to face trying to manage their extracurricular activities, students would be able to sleep earlier and wake up the next morning to finish school responsibilities while gaining concentration from meeting the recommended hours of sleep. Without a doubt, if schools change their starting times later, one major leap is taken to ensure students’ and teachers’ sleep needs are met so that they are able to sleep and function during the school…
