that you don’t have to be concerned with if it will be a problem. You asked me that, and it’s ok. I keep telling you that it is about progress not perfection. I feel I understand you enough to where you being emotional is not a problem. I genuinely like that you’re emotional, most men aren’t. We live in a society where we tell our boys and men not to be, and I don’t think that is healthy for the soul. I’m not saying be out here crying every 5 minutes, but being able to express your emotions is a good thing when expressed properly. I want to be with my best friend as well, and when I look back, I smile more than I frown up. Like you said relationships get hard, but the good should outweigh the bad. Intellect is one of my favorite qualities about you, and you shouldn’t have to dummy down. Relationships feel constant pushes and pulls of dialectical tensions—these tensions are ever present because they are inherent to the creation of long-lasting, and functional, relationships. Since these are ever present and ever important, knowing what they are and the strategies for handling these dialectical tensions are extremely important. There is a nuance to finding the balance between the poles, and between the people, involved in these relationships. These are not necessarily romantic either; dialectical tensions exist in every interpersonal relationship. Even though I have experienced these issues in every interpersonal relationship in my life, there is one notable situation where finding a medium between my needs and the needs of a romantic partner eventually created a rift so wide that we never recovered; having previous knowledge of these dialectical tensions and the methods…

There is a fanciful idea of what being in a relationship is like. People dream of finding ‘the one' and spend every second of their lives with this wonderful person. However, as I stated before, this is a fanciful idea. Being in any type of relationship requires a great deal of time and energy, and isn't often drowned in love. You are expected to compromise on everything, stop talking to certain people, and have to constantly defend your loyalty.…

The romantic relationship people read in books or see in movies doesn’t exist; it’s played off as “perfect.” Which is not always the case. It’s romantic but it’s not actually shown in a healthy way that everyone wants theirs to be. Trying to be with the person that you truly loves has a lot to do with communication and trust.…

Being smart, kind, considerate, are just natural, humane qualities that all human beings should have, yet men have a hard time of being considered manly when having these traits. Instead of neglecting the in-touch males, we should praise them and treat them with the same respect as others their age. A solution to stop having young men self doubt themselves and turning into beasts of aggression is to stop labeling what gender is ‘supposed’ to be associated with that quality, and instead praise individuals as themselves and not on what gender they come…

How my Development Would Be Different if I Were Born a Female This is a difficult question, because an extremely large portion of my self-concept and identity revolves around my male gender. There is much talk and debate about the effects of race on one’s self identity and worldview, but I identify far more with being a man than I do with being White (this could be a result of White privilege). Much of this identity was passed down through my family structure. Best (2009) stated that, “Social role theory suggests that people know the stereotypes about men and women, and they know they will be rewarded for behaving in ways that are consistent with those stereotypes,” (p. 347).…

As a girl growing with ADHD I was told by people that my behavior wasn’t unacceptable, simply because I behaved “different" from other girls my age. I was pressured into being silent as opposed to boys my age whose loud behavior was often tolerated and regarded as normal. I was even put on medication to keep my behavior under control. Managing emotions has had a tremendous impact on my life. Emotion management can be described as an act of masking ones true feelings to react fittingly to situations where people find themselves in.…

One of the heartbreaking qualities of Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis is that despite having a family, Gregor Samsa is a lonely and unwanted man. While he cares so much for them that he is willing to sacrifice his happiness in order to support them, they are distant and inconsiderate towards him. His metamorphosis only makes them ashamed of and disgusted by him, thus proving that unconditional love -even for a relative- is inexistent.…
