There are always experiences that changes a person to either change their career or their way of life. For me, this happened when I was really young after moving here from Colombia. My brother and I faced difficult medical circumstances. With the help of exceptional physicians and the care that we received in general, I vowed that d that I would one day grow up to change the healthcare industry and help individuals that are in the same situation as we were then. I began to contemplate the idea of becoming a doctor but I realized in my undergraduate studies that I would be better suited for administration. I decided not to go the easy route and completed a degree in accounting to gain knowledge that will differentiate me from others. I found that numbers make sense and you can tell a lot about a company by just looking at data and statements. Without a degree in accounting, it would be hard to analyze such documents in-depth as to how healthy are the finances of the hospital.

This fellowship will allow me to showcase my diverse work experience and incorporate them into an organization that allows individuals to grow not only personally but professionally. Specifically, it would be an honor to become a fellow at Ochsner Health Systems.
