The Problem of Animal Cruelty In March 2015, a cat was found with electrical tape tying his legs together. This instance of animal abuse occurred in Regina, Saskatchewan; a place we call home. Bruce Almighty had sustained many injuries to his legs, including tissue loss and the loss of eight toes. He endured many painful surgeries and had a long rehabilitation process. Abuse and neglect of animals is a large issue that happens every day around the world. It happens in your country, your province, your city and your neighbourhood. According the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act an animal that is in distress is:
‘‘Deprived of adequate food, water, shelter, ventilation, light, space, exercise, care or veterinary treatment, kept in conditions that are unsanitary, not protected from excessive heat or cold, injured, sick, in pain or suffering, or abused or neglected.’’ (What Is Animal Cruelty? 2013)
Animal abuse can be deliberately done which involves physical abuse such as hitting, shooting or stabbing animals. Whereas ‘‘neglect is not giving an animal necessary food, water, shelter or vet care. Their misery is often prolonged; animals who die of neglect can suffer just as much as animals that are deliberately harmed.’’ (Animal Abuse and Neglect, 2016) An animal in a household is considered a

These homes are not suitable for pets as their owners deprive them of a loving life. If the world starts preventing the problem of over population, the abuse rates will go down as there are loving homes for the population
