The Plan of Salvation is intended to improve God’s children, and allow them to return to

live with Him again. In order to do that, however, tests and instruction must be given. This

mortal life is an opportunity of immense spiritual and intellectual growth. That growth comes

naturally for some, and less naturally for others. Thankfully, our Heavenly Father has given

instructions through His servants and the scriptures as to how we can increase this knowledge.

Because of this, teaching is an integral part of religion, and, Christ’s Gospel. By further

understanding the principles of teaching and being instructed, we will further be able to take

advantage of those opportunities to receive spiritual enlightenment, through the Holy Ghost.

Principles of Teaching

One of the most important principles of the Gospel is to teach. Without instruction, the

basic principles of the Gospel would never be shared, and those principles would have no effect

in the lives of others. In section 88 of the Doctrine and Covenants, verse 77 it reads; “And I give

unto you a commandment that you shall teach one another the doctrine of the kingdom.”1 This is

a direct charge to teach the doctrine of God’s kingdom. It is a commandment to teach the Gospel.

Certain blessings are promised through teaching, which are illustrated in the following verse;

“Teach ye diligently and my grace shall attend you, that you may be instructed more perfectly in
