Singer argued that the confines between humans and animals is completely capricious. He gave the example that there are far more discrepancies between a great ape and an oyster, then between a human and a great ape. Yet, the former two are lumped collectively as “animals” and we “humans” are considered in a way that supposedly differentiates us from all other “animals”.
Speciesism is used to convey two very broad ideas. The most notorious is the “human speciesism” which is the segregation of all non human animals in the distinction of the preservations bestowed on humans. The other can be attributed to allocating significance to a being on the assumption of species membership alone.
Steinbock argued that Singer made a critical addition that declared that animals warrant special scrutiny, although he lacked a coercive claim case against speciesism. Now speciesism is the weight given towards a species by rights they should be considered entitled to. Steinbock did claim that there is a certain prima facie that follows harming animals.
