Recently Tom Cruise’s prideful attitude along with his promotion of the Church of Scientology have placed him at the forefront of the media’s celebrity obsession. In some ways Tom Cruise reminds me of the Pride and Prejudice character Mr. Darcy because how prideful he is. But, they are also fairly nice people to those they love. Regardless of how nice they are, the pride of these two individuals is what gets in the way of them developing relationships or maintaining relationships. Jane Austen portrayed Mr. Darcy as a prideful man with an inclination to be prejudice. The flaws I deal with–Pride, prejudice, stress–are what keeps me from becoming a better person. Mr. Darcy is a character that Jane Austen depicts as a prideful man with prejudice tendency. One of the first times Mr. Darcy 's prejudicial nature is shown is when he is first introduced by the author. In this scene, someone suggests that he and Elizabeth dance together. Mr. Darcy immediately rejects the idea and states that it is ridiculous. He goes on to say “She is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me; and I am in no humor at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men (Austen 8).” Mr. Darcy shows his prejudice here by refusing to dance with Elizabeth just because she wasn 't dressed as well as the other women at the ball, and because of her social class. Mr. Darcy 's prejudice prevented the relationship from starting during the ball. Pride is the other crippling flaw…
