On a journey like this unity literally determined whether Odysseus survived or not. Even more so if since he was a leader of a crew for ten years. When there's pride in a person that person will fall eventually because they think they’re invincible and before the fall there's pride meaning that pride is the cause of the fall. Odysseus's pride was amplified in his journey because he defeated these monsters and overcame difficult obstacles. I can't blame him for being prideful because he defeated these creatures of course he's going to grow prideful same for us if we were in his situation we'd probably grow prideful also but pride can be a dangerous thing because we think we're unstoppable but we really aren't. Let him alone!"- Homer (pg 574, p2) Odysseus defeated the cyclopes and afterwards he began to taunt the cyclopes as they escaped because it was a spur of the moment type of thing, in the moment he thought he was untouchable. Sometimes pride can cost you everything and leave you with nothing, in Odysseus's case his taunting could've cost him everything if the cyclopes wouldn’t have missed when he was throwing debris at them.
