There have been a few cases when they go on to be increasingly severe still they can be genuinely rare. Due to the publication from Wakefield et al, various parents that believe his findings to be true even though the results remain false. This is the cause for numerous parents to refuse to obtain their children’s immunizations. There has since been studies done to show that Autism and vaccines remain unlinked. Taylor and colleagues is one of the various research groups that have gazed into the possibility of a link between the two. They found that there were no increases in cases from before the introduction of the MMR vaccine to after. They also found that the age of the child at the time of receiving the vaccine did not increase the chances of a child acquiring autism (DeStefano, 3). While this is certainly, a cause for concern research has shown that when a baby is born they carry with them a bit of their mother’s immunity for various types of bacteria. The maternal immunoglobulins transfer to the baby through the placenta and again the baby will receive extra if the mother chooses to breastfeed. While the immunoglobulins transferred by the mother disappear within the first two months of age, the infant is capable of generating enough of these immunoglobulins to protect them from the vaccines on their own (Offit, 2). Vaccines produced today have fewer antigens in them today, then in the past, giving an infant an exceedingly higher chance to build up the immunities to different types of vaccines available (Offit, 3).
