Suicide is the deliberate act of causing one's own death. It is not discriminating as people from all ages, ethnicities, and genders face the risk of suicide. However, people who commit suicide tend to share similar characteristics in terms of the risk factors faced. The common one is depression due to a disturbing emotional or psychological issue. Mental disorders and substance abuse are also top causes of suicide cases. People who have had a prior attempt to commit suicide are more likely to commit suicide, especially if they did not look for professional help. The study has shocking revelations about the prevalence of suicide among teenagers in schools. It indicates that one out of every six students in high school have had a serious consideration to committing suicide, while one in twelve students have attempted suicide. This is in accordance with the semi-annual study conducted by the Disease Control and Prevention titled "survey on youth risk behavior". The newspaper article is important to my research because it conducts an analysis based on this information. It breaks it down in a way that is easier to comprehend than it is in the original manuscript. It shows that among teenagers, more females attempt suicide than males. This is because self-esteem issues, mostly cause suicidal thoughts among the teenagers. Of the two genders, females are the ones who have to battle with acceptance and self-esteem issues more than the boys. The explanation given in the newspaper to this is logical in the sense that, females undergo more changes in their bodies, which also affects them mentally and emotionally. There is that "ideal" body that most girls dream of having upon maturity. When the developments in the body begin to deviate from it, the girls start getting stressed and some even develop suicidal thoughts. The highest rate was among Hispanic females, who recorded a 13.5% prevalence rate. The lowest was 4.5%, which represented white males. This indicates that identity complex is a major cause of suicide because Hispanics are more likely to battle with issues of acceptance, compared to whites who are generally independent. The most affected ages were 14 to 16. The other main contributor to these alarming rates of suicide is bullying, and this mostly affects females of non-native communities such as Hispanics and
