Before Rachels stated his stand regarding the cultural judgment of the “excision” he stated that we, all of the cultures should have at least some of our values or moral codes that each culture has in common. Rachels gives the example of Murder and lying to make his point that we all have some moral codes or virtues that are universal by stating “…there are some moral rules that all societies must have in common, because those rules are necessary for society to exist. The rules against lying and murder are two examples. And in fact, we do find these rules in force in all viable cultures. Cultures may differ in what they regard as legitimate exceptions to the rules, but this disagreement exists against a background of agreement on the larger…

Nation of Lies Why do we lie to others, but expect others to be honest with us? Today in society, lies have embodied the lives of many to the point where it has become a natural part of our lifestyle. Lying has become a natural habit for us, it has become a factor in how we carry out our lives. Whether we may have lied in consideration of how others may feel, or if it was because we did not want to carry out something we were assigned, lying has become so natural to us that we cannot distinguish it from what the truth really is. Lying has become a cultural cancer, as Stephanie Ericsson states in her essay, “The Ways We Lie”, that we have come to the point where we accepted it into our society.…

Most evil people in the world are described as being liars, but does this does not make all lies evil. Everyone lies and surely not everyone in the world is evil. Most people begin to lie at age four, but no one would call an innocent child evil. Many people would argue that people lie because they solely want to be deceitful, but not all lies are as simple as that. Stephanie Ericsson in The Ways We Lie discusses many different types of lies, and why people tell these types of lies.…

Personally, I am an individual that values justice and despite any length, I will support justice. Getting Away With Murder demonstrates several scenes where injustice rules over justice only because of the discrimination that lie within our hearts. If I was conscious in the era during the Emmet Till case, I would prove to the juries that the defendants are guilty (Where would Emmet be if that decompensating body that flowed down the Tallahatchie River wasn’t Emmett’s? If what Roy Bryant and L.W Milam said was true then Emmet would be at a relative that was in contact with his mother.) If possible, I would visit the funeral that was held for Emmet to honor the victim that was sacrificed to show the world the savagery that lie within a man’s…

The 1920’s were not the time to piss off a beautiful, wealthy, white female in Chicago (unless you had a death wish). As seen in The Girls of Murder City by Douglas Perry, the press encouraged women to murder by glorifying crimes to fabricate sales. Perry’s book focuses on the achievements of an inexperienced news reporter, who faces sexism in her field of work. What seems like an enticing story about murder turns into a monotonous history textbook.…

In the essay The Ways We Lie by Stephanie Ericsson, she mentions on how she discovered that telling the truth all the time is nearly impossible because it would be living with some serious consequences. Throughout the history of the United States and other parts of the world, a high percentage of people tend to not be able to tell the truth when they are asked simple questions by members of their family or by their close friends. As telling the truth may have consequences, telling lies may have deeper consequences that cannot only hurt the person telling the lie, but it can affect the person being lied to. Being known as a liar can cause problems in a relationship because it will bring on trust issues and can also cause one’s partner to overthink…

Women want to look like the girls in the magazine, when the girl on the magazine does not even like the girl on the magazine. As women we let society pick the way we should look like, but we should just learn to accept the beauty of uniqueness.…
