The two candidates that were running for the presidential election of 1952 were Dwight D. Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson. The United States presidential election of 1952 took place in an era when Cold War tension between the United States and the Soviet Union was escalating rapidly. The Republican Party nominated a hero named General Dwight D. Eisenhower who won in the presidential election of 1952. He agreed to run as the Republican nominee for the "good of the nation."(History Central:1952 Elections Eisenhower vs. stevenson) Senator Robert Taft, of Ohio opposed Eisenhower for the nomination. Taft represented the Republican Party and he won more of the primaries than Eisenhower. There was a high chance that President Truman would run for reelection; however, President Harry S. Truman was knocked out of the race by a poor showing in the early primaries and decided to back Illinois Governor Adlai Stevenson. He chose to support Governor Adlai Stevenson of Illinois for the Democratic nomination. In the presidential election of 1952, Dwight Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson both campaigned to become president to serve our country, that will never be forgotten.
