Juno Film Analysis Essay

The film starts in Autumn with 16-year-old Juno MacGuff strolling around in her neighborhood while drinking a jug of SunnyD orange juice. Juno heads to a store to purchase a pregnancy test and takes the test in the store 's public restroom. The pregnancy test shows that Juno is pregnant as the positive sign appears. Juno breaks the news to her friend Leah and she considers aborting her baby. Following that day, Juno tells her pregnancy to her best friend Paulie Bleeker, who is the father of her baby. Afterwards, Juno goes to an abortion clinic to abort her baby but she changes her mind. Instead of aborting the baby, Juno wants to give her baby for adoption. The next day, Juno then reveals to her parents, Mac MacGuff and Bren MacGuff, that she …show more content…
In all of Juno’s conversations with the other characters, she never hesitates to say a clever or an amusing statement. An example of this is when Vanessa explains to Juno why people are unlikely to give Mark and her a baby shower. In response, Juno says “Should have gone to China. I hear they giveaway babies like free iPods. They pretty much just put them in T-shirt guns, and shoot them out in sporting events.” Juno’s sense of humor in this example adds fun and pleasure to the conversation. Another communication pattern of Juno is she portrays an assertive communication style. When Juno interacts with other people, she always makes eye contact and expresses her opinions and ideas clearly. Moreover, she is consistently confident with her decision making. When Juno discloses to her parents that she is pregnant, she doesn’t wait for her parents to react. Instead, she immediately states a solution for her pregnancy by saying “But I’m going to give it out for adoption and I already found a perfect couple and they’re going to pay for the medical expenses and everything. After 30 odd weeks, we could just pretend this never happened.” In this example, Juno uses her assertive style of communication to assure her parents that she can handle her pregnancy independently. This is evident through Juno’s confidence in her decision to give her baby for

    Wynter Film Theory Essay

In applying for the Sylvia Wynter Graduate Fellowship, my area of interest is film theory, especially as it is challenged by the work of Sylvia Wynter. Wynter’s work challenges us, as diasporic people of African descent, to create unique stories, and to approach them as “new ceremonies.” In cinema, Wynter’s challenge is primed to authorize the film scholar to approach other ways of performing humanness as a verb, and to find inventive ways of implementing humanness as a creative and biographic practice. As a student, I have noted that a large segment of African American film scholars are both resistant and dismissive of the film theory that is integral to the success and continuance of Black independent film study. It is my contention that…

Alcohol use is often glamorized in society and viewed as an acceptable form of socialization and fun. Thousands of youths, college students, and adults partake in this behavior in order to either fit in with their peers or find an escape for their problems. Although many individuals are able to keep their drinking within an acceptable limit, others often exceed the boundaries and enter dangerous territory. The movie entitled “28 days” exceeds an audience’s expectations in regards to correctly portraying the dark side of substance use disorders.…

Juno’s reactions to different situations aren’t the only thing showing how different she is from a normal teenager, her dialogue is out of the ordinary as well, using terms like “cautionary whale” and “forshizz up the spout”. Mary F. Pols has this to say of Juno’s dialogue: “She talks with the assurance of a 65-year-old woman without any hang ups… Every line of dialogue crackles with an intelligence that feels innate, not practiced.” (Pols). Even the manner in which Juno got pregnant is outside the norm, not a one-night-stand with some stranger from a bar.…

Shame Shame is one of the dominant themes acted upon in Joss Whedon’s movie adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing, specifically the presentation of shame that is associated with sexual prowess. In the bedroom scene with Don John, the bastard son, and Conrad, his trusted follower, there is a feeling of imprisonment and order right away as you see the sleek straight lines of the furniture, geometrical design and the old eloquent decorations. Along with the prop and sound choice, it is clear that this is a place which is under control, is orderly and is to be contained as such. The first thing the audience sees during the first few second of the scene are the legs of Don John and Conrad as they lay in bed with intertwined limbs. Shortly after you see a snapshot of Conrad’s behind in a short dress followed by the face of Don John as he strokes Conrad’s shoulder and stares up at the ceiling.…

    The Debut Film Analysis

The Debut (2000) was a film presenting the positive aspects of the Filipino culture, using the real problems and relatable issues that teenagers face. This film is one of the first films I’ve viewed which portrays an Asian culture as what it truly is. Unlike many other films and scenes in Hollywood cinema, this film did not use negative stereotypes or derogatory topics as its main base. Director Gene Cajayon is from the Filipino agency and grew up in its heritage; this reflects on the films true use of Tagalog, traditions, relationships, and cultural values. What was particularly enjoyable was the scenes of dancing and singing that are accurate presentations of the Tinikling dance with string instruments.…

The term alcoholism has been misused over the years as a vague, poorly understood and most often morally flavoured term. In various media outlets such as film, music and television, alcohol is often associated with success, physical attractiveness, romance, and sociability. Very often, the media sidesteps negative repercussions of substance abuse. This can influence individuals to have a stronger desire to drink as they have an attitude towards alcohol that is more favourable. As a result, alcoholism has been ranked as the most harmful drug compared to others (Nutt 2012).…

For my film analysis, I chose to analyze the movie “The Outsiders” directed by Francis Ford Coppola and based on the novel “The Outsiders” by S. E. Hinton. In this movie, a gang of outcasts from the north side of town called the Greasers are always fighting against a rival group called the Socials, who are the rich jocks from the south side of town. The story follows two young Greasers, Johnny and Ponyboy, who aren’t like the others. These two see that fighting is pointless, but it’s just the way they live their life. The two boys get into a fight with some Socials and end up killing one.…

Everyone has heard of the triple crown, it is one of the highest and most prestigious awards in horse racing, it was typically understood that the receiving horse was the best horse. Seabiscuit was the horse to change that belief. Many years after his victory over the Triple Crown recipient, the movie, Seabiscuit, was made to depict the life and racing career of a special horse. It also renders a surreal image of the team that raced along with the undersized contender. It is an inspirational film about the success of an underdog horse with an underdog team, is based on a true story of redemption and understanding.…
