Very little has reformed from the earlier few decades when reexamining the 1992 election race for the presidency. Sulking tempers, outbursts, and verbal abuse may have reached all-time highs between candidates; however, the promises made and ideas imposed by each elective have not budged an inch. Per the National Bureau of Economic Research, ethnic diversity seems to be the major determinant for rioting in L.A., while little evidence points to poverty in the community as a large cause. (Glaeser 1) Media coverage of the riots would provide ample election exposure for the running nominees. It was this very same ethnic diversity that brings about the Black Lives Matter(BLM) activist movement in 2013, in response to the acquittal of George…

Today is a sad day in United States history as our new President is sworn in. This is very unsettling to me that we will have a President that has openly ridiculed disabled people, disrespected our men and women in the armed forces, empowered racism, and a man that is unable to endure any criticisms. Sadly, he is a President that is so gullible, a man that has disrespected women, insulted our current President and someone that changes their opinion in a blink of an eye. A President that has no self-control and throws twitter tantrums daily. A man that once said “I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”…

In a period of strict intellectual censorship, Czech writer and playwright Vaclav Havel rebelled against the Czechoslovakian communist regime in the best way he knew how: by writing. In his 1978 political essay, The Power of the Powerless, Havel show his dissatisfaction with he calls the post-totalitarian system. He presents a moral argument against the system, that one can contribute to the toppling of the system by simply living the truth— living in tune with ones beliefs and values. He exposes the dichotomy between what the system says it is and what the system really is and urges people to not live “within…
