The Power Of Snowball And Napoleon In Animal Farm

Improved Essays
Snowball and Napoleon were the two main leaders in the Animal farm. However, Napoleon was a crafty, forceful, intimidating “political” leader. He used propaganda to convince the animals to stand on his side. Within squealer’s help, he became more and more scheming. During the “Windmill event”, it fully embodied his personalities. Building the windmills were really helpful, however, it was snowball’s idea. Napoleon knew that he would be out of power if the animals trusted snowball. In order to create the conflict, he falsely claimed that the windmill was destroyed by snowball. This was only an example that Napoleon lied to the animals.

If Snowball had chased Napoleon off the farm, the place would be in better “hands”, because, as showed in the Battle of Cowshed, he knew what to do. Napoleon was not as intelligent as Snowball was, he could not defend the farm when it was attacked. The plot would have a prosper story, because Napoleon would not almost enslave animals. Farm would be bigger, maybe the biggest one with Snowball’s ideas like the windmill. Snowball would be a better leader, because he was smart, he had great ideas and was willing to help animals.…

For the rest, it became quickly apparent that to step out of line meant death. Some animals were simply too dumb to understand what Napoleon was doing.…

Early in the George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm we see Jesse and Bluebell’s 9 puppies raised and trained to be attack dogs. These dogs were the forefront of Napoleons way of maintaining his power. Napoleon used these dogs to threaten anyone who attempted to disobey Napoleon. This is shown when the animals were shocked and surprised with Snowball’s expulsion, several of the animals would have protested but none of them could think of a supportive argument. The pigs however were the smarter animals on the farm and they started “Uttering shrill squeals of disapproval” until the dogs sitting around Napoleon “let out deep menacing growls” which forced the pigs to sit down in silence.…

From there on, the animals kept quiet because they were afraid of Napoleon 's retribution against them. Napoleon blames the farm 's failures on Snowball, for example, when the windmill was destroyed (Orwell 28).…
