The first time we meet lady Macbeth, she has just received a letter from her husband recounting a prophecy that he will become King, Lady Macbeth doesn’t stop to think; she immediately hatches a plan to kill the reigning King Duncan. From the moment she opens her mouth, Lady Macbeth burns with passion that will propel the whole play she’s not ready to kill, she’s ready to call on dark forces, the ‘murdering ministers’ so she can pursue this course of ‘direst cruelty’. The power of her obsession allows her to control everyone around her, including her husband, the would – be king. But what’s truly frightening about lady Macbeth is her audacity. She is willing to do the unthinkable; her ruthlessness startles both her husband and the audience.
