In literature, countless authors touch on a particular recurring cycle in humanity: people’s susceptibility to greed in life, and the search for reclamation after the consequences. Both families hate each other because of an old argument and riled up again. The pop-up of the argument started to create disagreements between people and are constantly fighting with each other. Both love and hate can be at times blinding and become as compelling as an influence that everything else is of low in significance. Greed in many places of the world is seen as a malignant thing because it can lead to a devastating blow in the sense of an actual injury or economically. In the short story, The Devil and Tom Walker, Tom was an avaricious person because he focused too much on materialistic wants that eventually he bamboozled his clients and they would come back stating, “you have made so much money out of me”, with him replying, “the devil take me if I have made a farthing” (Irving 365). In Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, the use of literary elements develop the theme that decisions can have a large impact on others, Romeo’s characterization throughout the play, and the plot structure after Romeo’s banishment. First of all, despite how small some of their decisions may have seemed, dramatic irony is used to exemplify the theme that decisions can have a large impact on others. When Juliet decides to drink the vial she was given by the Friar so she will appear dead, Romeo does not know of this and plots to kill himself,”Here, here will I remain With worms that are thy chambermaids. O, here Will I set up my everlasting rest, And shake the yoke of inauspicious stars shake off the burden of cruel fate From this world-wearied…

Many literary elements are used in writings from this period in time and even writings from the present in order to convey a lesson, or moral, for the person reading to take away from the piece of literature.
