Is gambling right or wrong? Whose fault is it really? Now a days gambling has become a major problem that need to be taken in conscious so thing don’t get out of hand. Duhigg, the author of The Power of Habit, mentions the importance of knowing that gambling could become a habit and how it could transform to addiction. To be able to change it you need to know the cue, routine and reward as well as Lauren Slater the author of the book Opening Skinner’s Box supports the idea of habits by making examples of how the cue, routine and reward functions.

First the research was made with two different types of rat. One was put in a nice wooden fencing where they made it look like a fancy park that was a good environment. The other one was put in dark small cage that had poor environment. This research was to show how habits could transform to addictions. In the research they would put water to each rat so they will get used to it. Then when they had a habit already they change the water for sugar water with morphine with morphine to see which rat will get addicted. Bruce one of the researchers found that the rats that were in the good environment didn’t drink that much of the sugar water with morphine than the ones in the dark cage; therefore, the ones in the good environment didn’t get addicted. Bruce surprise was that how the environment could make someone become addicted. the. Angela had a good environment and still got addicted to gambling. She was brought up by a loving family whose parents didn’t seem to have trouble financially. Angela was married to a man that had a good job and didn’t have trouble to provide for the family. When her parents died, she was given money from their inheritance, with that money she was able to provide her family with a nice house. She wasn’t alone. Whatever problem she had her parents were there to help her. Whenever she needed money she asked her parents for it. Even though she hid all her gabling debts from her husband, she was not alone in her situation. It was her decision to keep him out, even if it was fear or not, it was her choice. Her parents wanted to help her, but she always denied that fact that she had a problem.
