Power Of Ethical Management Essay

The protagonist in the book The Power of Ethical Management is constantly being faced with difficult situations. Through his struggles, he has learned to take the advice of others who have strong ethical powers, whether it be within his company, or outside of his company. At his current employment, he is constantly pressured by high management to increase sales and productivity no matter the cost. Stressed and confused he searches for answers. Through an old acquaintance he learns of the “Five Principles of Ethical Power; purpose, pride, patience, persistence, and perspective” (Blanchard & Norman, 43). When applying the five principles of ethical power an individual must realize the true meaning behind each principle. Purpose is constantly confused with the idea of goals, however the book describes purpose as an individuals mission statement. It is something that an individual strives to accomplish everyday, it is something that can never be finished, but only started and worked on for a lifetime. Thanks to his desire to grow more ethically, his company has begun to adopt the idea of the Five Principles of Ethical Power. It started out with his department and spread right through the company.
