In the novel, “The Power of Broke,” by Daymond John, the author uses tone to convey his message in crucial parts of the book. Daymond John says, “Started it with two other friends each putting in $400, which was pretty much all they had.” (47). The tone of the quote is straightforward with no extra fluff to emphasize the importance of the sentence. Daymond John mentions an adviser named Jay Abraham, “To look at today at Jay Abraham-a leading marketing consultant adviser to Fortune 500 companies, bestselling author, and sought after growth strategist-you’d never guess he came from modest beginnings” (110). Daymond John explains what to do when you’re facing a tough time,“That’s how it is when you’re up against it, with no place to go but up, up, up. You’ve got to seek out every available opportunity, even if it seems like a long shot”(77). The conflicting problem is that when you are up against a problem internally or externally, all you have to do is continue to succeed, says Daymond John and the only way to succeed it to go up, up and up). Mark Cuban shares tips when dealing with a good amount of money, “‘If you’ve got twenty-five thousand dollars, fifty thousand dollars, one hundred thousand dollars,’ he says, ‘you’re better of paying off any debt you have because that’s guaranteed return’”(87-88). Mark Cuban gives insight to the reader on what to do to avoid a conflict with the money you are dealing with. “Jay was a quick study-but not quick enough. He was fired from that first (non paying!) job, so he had to scramble all over again”(111). Jay Abraham’s real life experience is used to motivate others to move on from any hard situation they are going through and persevere.
