Technology in the Classroom Technology in the classroom has been discussed by many schools and in the government in the last few years. When looking at technology in the classroom it is the common questions of whether or not it is actually beneficial to the students and staff to have technology such as laptops, tablets, and calculators, readily available. In a 2009 report released by the National Center for Education, 74% of Pre-K to grade 12 teachers say that technology enables them to reinforce and expand on content. 74% also say that technology motivates students to learn. This report also revealed that a whopping 92% of these teachers say the internet has a major impact on their daily ability to access content resources and materials (n.p., Educational Technology and Mobile Learning). Looking at statistics and facts that many organizations have put together, one can come to the conclusion that technology is beneficial to both the students and teachers to have in the classroom. In the article “How Computers Change the Way We Think” by Sherry Turkle, she talks about how there is more emphasis put on how the PowerPoint looks than the information in the actual PowerPoint. She makes multiple points similar to this one about technology and other technological software. Although, she does not address the positives of this technological software, such as the fact that it enables teachers and students to prepare and present presentations in an interesting and creative way.
