So, due to forcing every citizen that owned a weapon back then to purchase a license, in 1938 Adolf Hitler signed a new gun control law, which denied firearm ownership to enemies of the state (Halbrook 2). In 2013, the state of New York passed the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act. This Act gives New York the power to confiscate firearms from people that seek medical help for mental disorders like PTSD and anxiety. This law coincides with what the President’s executive decision with making individual’s personal medical records public. With these two laws being enforced, more than 300,000 law-abiding military veterans, are being attacked and having their individual right to bear arms rejected without due process (The Critical Need for Military & Civilian Mental Health Professionals Trained to Treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder & Traumatic Brain Injury 1). So now instead of military veterans calling crisis hotlines for help with suicidal thoughts or depression; they are now thinking twice due to the fact they don’t want their weapons taken away from them.
